We are the South Santa Clara County California Chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice.

SURJ’s role as part of a multi-racial movement is to undermine white support for white supremacy and to help build a racially just society.

That work cannot be done in isolation from or disconnected from the powerful leadership of communities of color. It is one part of a multi- racial, cross-class movement centering people of color leadership.

Therefore, SURJ believes in resourcing organizing led by people of color, and maintaining strong accountability relationships with organizers and communities of color as central part of our theory of change.

SURJ South County was founded in Morgan Hill in 2016. We put on our 2nd Annual Youth Conference on Race and Social Justice September 21, 2019 and are currently planning our 3rd Annual Youth Conference, which will be held virtually on Sept. 25, 2021.

We are active supporters of and, partners with CARAS in Gilroy, Rapid Response Network, CAIR and FACES.

Pre-Covid, we had regular programs at the Morgan Hill Library the 4th Wednesday of every month where we would usually show a film on topics of race in America. We frequently participate in or organize marches and demonstrations that support racial and social justice such as Lights for Liberty.
